The Birth of
" The Classroom"
A number of
years ago I was invited
to take a class hosted by Kat Lee. Little did I know that this
opportunity would be the beginning of my new Adventure in the World of
Doll Making. A year later with the encouragement from my new friend, I
hosted my first class in New Windsor Maryland.
This class was
held in a country church hall that I had rented for the 3 day event. My
initial attempt was a success but I felt there was room for improvement.
The second class was held in my own home using an area that had been my
husband's workshop. This was a lot more comfortable but I knew if
this was to continue I needed to give the area a face lift.
Everything was removed and a fresh coat of light color paint for the
walls and ceiling as well as the addition of indoor/outdoor carpeting
was added.
It still need
a touch to make the room more cozy. My son offered to make small
shelves to display my collection of
Cats Meow Buildings. They
soon became the new border and the missing ingredient in the room.
Thus "The Classroom" was born.
Rose’s Dolls of Distinction
In 2004 I had
the opportunity to have Pam Grose come and teach. A gal from a club in
Texas made the arrangements. The other groups that helped sponsor this
trip were also doll clubs. The gal kept insisting that I had to have a
name for my group. This situation forced me into realizing that perhaps I did
need a name. I began to ask my friends for suggestions. One of the
suggested names was "Rose’s Dolls of Distinction". This was perfect as
it described how I felt l about the original 5 wonderful ladies who
have come to most of my classes. So a big Thank You goes out to Doris,
Lee, Marguerite, Sue and Celia.
